The MOT Test

When does a car require an MOT?

The first MOT on a car should take place when the vehicle is 3 years old – please note that this could be different if this has 9 seats or more and/or is a taxi. An MOT tests the important elements of your vehicle to ensure they meet the minimum legal requirements, you should continue to make sure that your car maintains this standard as a minimum at all times. As the registered owner of the vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle is examined every 12 months.

You must get an MOT for your vehicle by:

  • The third anniversary of its registration
  • The anniversary of its last MOT, if it’s over 3 years old

Please note that some vehicles need to be tested from one year old – see DVSA website for full details.

What our customers think

Stranded in the Scottish Highlands during a two week road trip by my Landrover's suspension failure and gearbox issues , we thought our holiday would have to be cut short and get transported back to Lancashire by the AA. Having contacted the main Landrover franchise in Inverness to explain our plight, they informed us that it would be 3 weeks before the repair could be assessed, then some time before it could be repaired. We only had 5 days to go! Cue Mann Auto, and Barry Cruikshank. Our Landrover was collected for us on Sunday 2nd July, taken to Mann Auto (120 mile trip) work started Monday 3rd July and repairs complete on Tuesday 4th. A new suspension compressor, front cross valve and a gearbox flush, in addition to some other minor issues had all been done and our holiday was saved. This is incredible customer service, they are extremely busy and certainly not short of business yet they pulled out all the stops for us,an unknown customer. Many thanks Barry, from myself and the rest of my family.

Phil Cooper - July 2017

After spending lots of money at different garages and my Land rover still not fixed, we were recommended this garage . They found the fault and replaced the part within an hour, Although not local to us its worth the travel and we will be using them in future. They are Honest friendly and professional. And come highly recommended by ourselves

Annemarie Milne - March 2017

Very quick efficient service on both my recent visits for tyre and Haldex pump issue.

Alan Baxter - December 2016
